Es geschehen ja auch hin und wieder mal echt gute Dinge. Dank VJ Jules aus Berlin hatte ich das Vergnügen auf der CSD-Lesbenparty im ehemaligen Club Maria am Ostbahnhof zu spielen. Als Mann der ich nunmal bin war es zwar am Anfang ein komisches Gefühl dennoch wurde ich mehr als positiv Überrascht. Veranstalterin, Crew und alle Beteiligten Künstler waren sehr Herzlich. Vielen Dank dafür.

Das zweite schöne ist die Bekanntschaft mit VJKS einer jungen Künstlerin aus Australien. Über Umwege wurde ich gefragt ob ich ihr ein wenig meiner Spielzeit im RAW Tempel abgeben würde. Auch wenn ich eher schlechte Erfahrungen mit sowas hab bin ich froh das ich 3 Stunden abgegeben hab. Neben dem sehr netten Kontakt ist es auch immer wieder ein gutes Gefühl jemandem einen Gefallen zu tun denn nichts ist wichtiger als Übung egal wie lange man schon dabei ist... Ich freue mich schon auf ein wiedersehen dann im Suicide Circus ebenfalls in Berlin.

Mal ehrlich! Welcher DJ ist eine überzogene Gage heute überhaupt noch wert? Nicht das es Ausnahmekünstler gibt. Aber die meisten DJs spielen heute nur noch Mittelmaß und kommen nicht mit schweren Plattenkisten sondern teilweise nur noch mit 2 USB-sticks. Ok man muss mit der Zeit und der Technik gehen aber deswegen gleich 500 Tacken für lumpige 2 Stunden manchmal schlechte mp3 Mucke abspielen? Wenn man dann als VJ angefragt wird von eben solchen DJs denen ein Clip zu machen und man möchte dafür sagen wir 250 kleine Euros haben, schön mit Rechnung dann schütteln die den Kopf und melden sich nicht mal mehr... von den Veranstaltern will ich gar nicht reden...die wollen nen Mercedes bei den visuals und wollen gerade mal ein gebrauchtes Mofa bezahlen.

So kann es nicht weitergehen. Liebe Veranstalter, Booker und liebe DJs und Produzenten... Qualität kann man bezahlen und sie muss nicht sehr Teuer sein. Bitte bedenkt das der VJ in der Regel die ganze Nacht in eurem Club ist oder 1-2 Tage und mehr an einem Video schneidet. Eine Handwerkerstunde kostet auch 60 € - EINE STUNDE!!! und das was wir machen ist nichts anderes als Handwerk und ihr jammert meistens nur rum.

Noch interessanter wird es wenn wir für das bisschen am besten noch 3 Beamer und 100m Kabel und Leinwände mitbringen sollen... dann müssen wir vor der Veranstaltung aufbauen und danach wieder Abbauen.... Liebe Freunde DAS geht so nicht!!!

Noch etwas. Wir wollen nicht in irgendeine kleie Ecke gesteckt werden wo wir nicht gesehen werden oder nichts von der Party sehen. Am besten ist ein Platz neben dem DJ. Dann sehen wir was er macht und können entsprechend mit den Visuals reagieren. Wenn ihr dann noch sparsam mit dem nebel umgeht und euer Lichtmensch keine Pfeife ist die den ganzen abend nur programmiertes Licht laufen lässt dann kann es ein unvergessliches Fest werden!

Nummer Eins aus einer neuen Reihe in der ich jeden Montag eine kleine Logoanimation bauen werde. Die vorgaben sind einfach: 3 Stunden Zeit, nicht länger als 15 Sekunden pro Clip und das Logo wähle ich selbst. Mal schauen was alles bei rauskommt. :)

Kyle von VJ Loops bringt es mit diesem kleinen Video auf den Punkt. Das kuriose ist das ich das in etwa so vor genau einer Woche erlebt habe... dabei frage ich mich ernsthaft wie wer hier in den Gefilden in denen ich Fische größer ist als einige der Ed Bangerleute oder DJ's von Boyze Noise. Ich habe das zweifelhafte Glück mit fast allen ganz großen schon gespielt zu haben aber scheinbar sind die Berliner Local größen noch größer also die Weltweit erfolgreichen.

Was war das für ein Sommer... es war ein geiler Sommer! Neben einigen kleinen e
Enttäuschungen wie Bookingabsagen einen Tag vor Veranstaltung oder kurzfristig verlegte OpenAir Partys in einen Club wegen schlechtem Wetter... alles kleinigkeiten über die man im nachhinein hinwegsehen kann. Ausser der Tatsache das sämtliche Bookings die geplatzt sind aus der eigenen Agentur kamen... ergo... mach ich meinen Kram doch wieder ganz alleine. Die Krönung sind dann Anfragen für nen 2 minuten Trailer... was ich schonmal gut finde das die Leute anfragen aber dann die frechheit besitzen 50,00€ dafür zu bieten... HALLO??? Gut, man muss ja nicht alles machen. Viel geiler sind dann die Videoaufträge die man macht auch für schmales geld aber dann auch noch Druck von oben dafür bekommt das man total verhauenes Material irgendwie wieder retten muss. Und da will ich nicht anfangen mit anfragen wie dieser:

hi kannst du irgendwie mit deinem geilen programm nen pressebild oder 2,3 von mir machen? würde dir paar bilder schicken wo de mich so komisch raus schneiden kannst un das auf nen geilen hintergrund setzt mit schatten oder sowas

und das ist in der Tat ein Zitat. Von wem? Das ist egal. Ganz so gemein bin ich auch wieder nicht. Was soll man damit anfangen? Am besten das ganze auch noch kostenlos... im übrigen hatte ich die 2-3 Bilder im Emailkasten... 15kb große Bilder aufgenommen mit ner Handycam und gesaugt von nem Partyfotoportal. Scheiße das geht überhaupt nicht.

Und eine Frage stellt sich mir auch noch: Weshalb ist ein VJ für eine ganze nacht der locker 12 Stunden vor Ort ist in jedem Fall egal wie hoch die Gage nun ist zu teuer? heey für Spritkohle spielt heut kaum noch ein Anfänger. Liebe Veranstalter: Wir beschäftigen uns auch im vorfeld mit eurem Event und bauen gegebenenfals neues Material für euch und am ende sind es in der regel wenigstens 2 volle Tage die ich mich wenigstens mit eurer Party beschäftige... und das sollte wohl mehr als 50€ rechtfertigen?

Hey folks. it's time to wirte somethin again. I had some busy weeks... lot's of gig and other stuff to do. No I don't wanna complain about it just about the promoters again... Ok, small locations just don't have the budget to rent or buy some pro videobeamer or a screen. but the big ones... and than telling us "no mony" I played at a festival last weekend and I know that screen for tripplehead and beamer where writen on the techrider. At the maintent it was ok. 4 pro-screens and really bright beamer and a show done by the guys from visual drugstore. I like there style but at the second tent the screen was just some white fabric eating the light from the beamer. no real vj budget a small corner beside the stage... (at the maintent was much more) what does VD do better? Nothing! Just the name?!?
I did a tripleheadshow wich looked much better than expected with this crappy screen.. It's ok with me cause the VJ who had to rig this and is a friend and I know how much work he had. I guess it's just because it was a tent maintained by a local booking and event agency. Another bad thing is... a promoter just called to say I should bring beamers and screen with me to a open air... And it was clearly said: I just come and plug in! Am I such a diva that I just ask for a better treatment by some promoters... It's always the same... djs come with there usb sticks 2 hrs and getting the big cash and most of us vjs still come early riggin our stuff and de-riggin it after the show... hmm I'm a traveling vj and this is just not possible! I really just can say READ THIS!

Q: WHERE DOES YOUR ARTIST'S NAME COME FROM?

A: it bascially describes of my take on all things cultural or political, a kind of tongue-in-cheek quasi-ironically dystopian parody of an order/chaos, control/creativity, machine/human dichotomy. i quote wikipedia on "deconstructivism":

"It is characterized by ideas of fragmentation, an interest in manipulating ideas of a structure's surface or skin, non-rectilinear shapes which serve to distort and dislocate some of the elements [...], such as structure and envelope. The finished visual appearance[s] [...] that exhibit the many deconstructivist styles is characterized by a stimulating unpredictability and a controlled chaos.""

i've been using the DEKONSTRUKTIV.org moniker for all my creative output for quite a couple of years now, basically since the early 2ks when i first startet doing projections for bands and other stage acts.

Q: WHAT DISCRIBES YOUR VJING STYLE THE BEST?

A: besides the "deconstructivist" label i'd go with "glitchy minimal pseudogenerative high contrast monochromatic lofi flickering"

A: I'd like to do visuals for a throbbing gristle gig or tour. TG is one of the bands that really informed my take on contemporary music. plus i think my style would go pretty well with it.

So here you go with the next told:by interview. this time we have mr. shintla from the swiss crew Bildstoerung. Pretty nice guys I've met by the end of 2009 at the Visualisation Festival. Also the heads behind Videopong.net

Q: Where does you'r Artistname come from?

A: "bildstörung" is actually the german word for "image interference" and "phantom image" which is actually quite obvious for a vj crew. the logo with the hatched ant comes from the noise image when the tv-tuner does not adjust to a channel or has a bildstörung (image interference) and one sees only noise. in swiss german this is sometimes called "ameisen-rennen" which translates to ants-race.

Q: What discribes your VJing style the best?

A: By now its very geometric, very few colors, typographic, vectorized, much dark and all hard and fast cut. but this is because we do a lot of dnb and minimal giggs. when we started with goa our style was completely different. but i always liked it more reduced.

Q: Location/Act you ever want to do visuals for and why?

A: I would prefer some kind of a vj wandering (like carpenter do). just go from town to town and play wherever its possible. just a bag with beamer, notebook, midicontroller, v4, kaos-pad, pmp... he he maybe less equipment. but this would be great fun and i will do that some day. and i will use the contacts from videopong.net (our self developed vj footage share and remix platform) to contact local vjs to do giggs with them and get in contact with the users of that platform. that would be really great fun!

first of all I wanna wish you a happy new year with lots of fun and a lot of nice partys and shows and all around. May god bless you.

So whats going on? I'm going to go back to normal and publish more regulary than the last couple of days aaaand i just realized that I'm nearly 18 years in electronic dance music and in my 10th year of doing live visuals. In fact I also become 30 this year so there will be some celebration in the middle of the year. But until that I'll do some nice shows and will work even more harder at my skills. I hope to find allways good infos for you.

Since I'm planing to go to b-seite festival in mannheim I'm going to work out a little workshop about creating widescreen content for panorama projections and I'm designing a custom midicontroller for the use with resolume avenue at the moment. Ok, thats pretty enough for this year. Just hope that I may play at a place that has such a LED driven dancefloor...

Hey Folks,
back from Visualisation Festival!!! It was just amazing. On arrival day we had some nice talks and after a meal we had a nice presentation by Hendrik Wendler about his Multiscreensystem based on MXWendler Software. He was such a nice guy I think all of us enjoyed. After a break Erik from Bewegtbildbau introduced us a bit into the world of processing. What was meant as a workshop endet just in a presentation and he answered to the questions we hat. At least it's a pitty that these where the only let's say workshop. Meanwhile we are all getting known to each other Yochee and Magiceye where still on the way... they had a small trafficjam on the way..

so right after the presentations of Erik and Hendrik we talked a bit and at our house we even talked further and we also drunk some beer. It was funny and interesting.. oh meanwhile it's about 3:30 a.m. and that's just I think 17 houres after Yochee started his car... and guess! Yeah he made it. he just arrived after e really long trip. Hope his tour back home was not so long. Ok, after 4 houres of sleep I woke up and made myself a instant coffee. And slowly one by one all of us where back in live...

Breakfasttime in Neuhaus. We just had to walk some meters to a nice small pup/restaurant and they had a open fire burning in there. just beautyfull and a kind of romantic atmosphere. we all just talked and talked and afterwards we went back to the festival location. artificialeys Michael showed his VMS system and some funktonality of his macbased software called Thrill - it's a very interesting peace and worth having a look. I helped a bit building the just arrived LED Wall that looked after a small softare crash really amazing with the visuals... we build it as a kind of frame around the stage...

just an hour before the mainevent started I became a haircut from tribalking Stefan Lenk, he also did haircuts for Thomas D and teaches his skills to hairdressers around the globe. First one on the LineUp for the evening was organisator of the festival BILDzumTON a nice family guy but allways a bit stressed I guess. But no wonder if you create such a nice meeting. Respect and thanks Mike! As it becomes more crowded Emily Triplehead did threre performance. Three real nice girls with nice content and stage outfit. But I don't wanna go in detail so much cause every show was great. I also had my 1hour for performing a set of mine. I had so much fun that I did not realise the end of it - def. one of the shortest hours in the last 10 years while I'm doing this stuff. But the last days where a kind of hard and I truly where sleeping during the party right on stage on top of a case. Guess this was a funny for all. I just woke up half an hour before the end.

So after the show we went home to the house and after 2h of sleep the night was over. So I'm quite happy that I had some sleep at stage. ;) Had some nice talks than with Mike and Michael and the Triplehead girls also Frank aka MagicEye and the rest. At the lunchtable Michael told us some really deep things that maked me sad cause of similar experiences. Thanks for sharing you are not just a great vj no you are one of the interesting and deepest persons I met in live. Hope to see you again you are allways welcome to Leipzig/Delitzsch all of you! A pitty that I lost the sd card of my videocam... But anyway - Thanks a lot for this 3 days in Neuhaus.

1st impression on Visualisation Festival

Hey there and good morning folks. Last night we just started Visualisation Festival. It's quit small and except of the VJs no guest where here. Stop. At least two but they left early. Hendrik Wendler know for his software MXWendler did a presentation of some multiscreen stuff done with his software. That was in fact quit interesting so make sure you check it out. The second "workshop" ended up in a small presentation in whats possible in processing done by Bewegtbildbau. Erik just got a Novation Launchpad a day before and demonstrated some small code snippets to change the color of the buttons and made them blink. And the picture above is just showing Erik playing around with Processing, the Launchpad and Resolume Avenue.Just after maybe 4h of sleep! So gona get you some more pics today and keep you informed. Cheers so far...

It's to share and remix clips and for all of us a must to check it. Q: Where does your artist name or stage name come from?
A: It's my first name and surname
Q: What best discribes your VJing style?
A: My style to describe is difficult because I work not only in clubs, also at concerts with rock and jazzmusicians and also sometimes with the National Gallery. Usually I prepare special thematic graphic for each event and besides live vj-sets I do video installations and interactive performances with a videocamera.
I do not adhere to one musical style and I like to experiment with different musical directions, therefore my VJing style is constantly transformed. But as I work with motiongraphics it allows me to create the exclusive material, which I also constantly complicate and change.
Q: Location/Act you ever want to do visuals for and why?
A: Oh, it is a difficult question because I never reflected on it :)
Actually I like to do what I do now and I consider that important not "where" but "how" you do it.
Sometimes I dream of any other new spaces, where video will have more values than music,
because vj's work is much more difficult than dj's work and we deserve it ;)

A: Music it is possible to look

Q: Where does you'r Artistname come from?
A: LotteZ is my first name (Lotte) combined with the first letter of my surname (Zuydwijk).
I started out VJ'ing with a different name; Jetty Kiz, which is short for 'Would Jetty Kiz?', which is an anagram of my full name. My friends advised me to stick to my real name, because they found it confusing, so I did.
Q: What discribes your VJing style the best?
A: I always find it difficult to describe my 'style', because you do what comes natural to you.
I make stylistic decisions on things that are not always very artistic or stylistic. My visuals tend to be based on a dark background. One of the reasons why I do that is that I like to use a lot of layers in my visuals, to keep them new and exciting.Using a lot of black in your visuals makes it easy to key out elements.
Also I believe it is very important to be friends with the light- and laserartists of an event.
That way you can all become a team, create visual synergy and consider the general atmosphere of a night.
If your visuals contain a lot of light, it is very easy to kill the atmosphere; people generally don't like to dance in very light spaces. I'd rather build up my light output by layering my visuals during the night. But another thing that would desrcibe my style is high contrast, flow and raw themes combined with serene and natural elements.
Q: Location/Act you ever want to do visuals for and why?
A: It would be an absolute dream of mine to do the live visuals for The Prodigy. I have been a fan since their first album; I even had a teen crush on Keith Flint. So yeah; that would be awsome! But in general I really enjoy it when I am booked as a stage act and interact with the energy of other live performers. I recently teamed up with three other girls as a VJ-/performance-act.
We are called Geeks on Heels and we are always booked for our interaction with the DJ's, musicians and audience. It is so much fun to be out there, have fun, abuse equipment, go crazy and to get a direct response on that from people.
Q: Your personal famous last words?
A: Life is like a dance

It seems that some promoters just going back in there developement. All I see at events this days are bad adjusted projetions out of the box. They even never heard something about keystone and imagequality.
It's just pain in my eyes to see that. So if you don't wanna spend the fee for a decent vj than just turn the beamers off. It's better if there is nothing projected than showing crap! And yes, I know 90% of the guests just don's pay attention to the screens... at least not active. but some will and they talk about it. It's just a bit of an extra eyecandy... but I like it a lot!

Q: Where does your Artist name come from?
A: Currently I use my real name when I perform. Originally when I started performing at raves and Psytrance parties 10 years ago I used the name "VJ DMT" which was my acronym for Digital Media Therapy but it is more commonly known as Dimethyltryptamine a naturally occurring tryptamine and powerful psychedelic that is often found in plants but also in the human body. Back then this was a very interesting topic for me. I think the psychedelic culture and VJ culture complimented each other on many different levels so I wanted to give people the impression that my work was the most powerful mind blowing visual experience but I’m still working on that :P
Q: What describes your VJing style the best?
A: Right now I work a lot with stop motion & timelapse photography. So my work is very organic and real. I don’t have the classical 3D or 2D animation training so I rely on photography and some video. In the last few years I have been studying After Effects and Particle Illusion to get more into motion graphics and animation. I think 3D will be my next mountain to climb.
Q: Location/Act you ever want to do visuals for and why?
A: It’s always been my dream to travel to Asia, even better if I get the opportunity to VJ there. I just got back from a 5 week tour of Malaysia and Indonesia so I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to do visuals and travel there. The visual artists there are very dedicated and hardworking. I think my next goal will be Japan, Korea or China but I also have my eyes set on South America. I enjoy working with local acts in the countries I visit because they have a lot to offer visually. You pick up new techniques and ideas. It's a great way to share knowledge.
Q: Your personal famous last words?
A: The world is your visual playground. Go explore, document, capture, film, photograph, edit, cut and produce what makes you happy.

After a pretty short session at my favorite search engine I found out about it. It's made completly in my weapon of choice After Effects. It's a bit of 2D, 3D and some photorealisitk film. I like the look Isak Gjertsen and his team created with a 3 million Euro budget. It's worth having a look on it. trust me.

I saw this nice piece of animation a couple of months ago. It was mentioned at a german magazin. Now I just found it again. It's a compositing out of hundreds of moviefiles done in After Effects. It's done for an elevator at a NewYork based hotel. Hope I'll have the time to make a visit there next year...

Q: Where does you'r Artistname come from?
A: My Pseudonym has 2 origins. 1st it comes from my wife's favourite film "Wir Wunderkinder." The second reason is that I wanted a German word that English speakers would understand.
Q: What discribes your VJing style the best?
A: I guess it's kind of hard to describe my style as I'm in the middle of making a change. But if I had to give a short description, it would be simple and clean, maybe even minimalistic. That's because I don't want to end up having a total chaos on the screen. Neither do I want to cause epileptic shocks by changing too fast. So I keep it rather slow and simple.
Q: Location/Act you ever want to do visuals for and why?
A: Hmm who would I like to do visuals for... Tough one. I love Massive Attack, but UVA have done a fine job for them already. I think in general I'd like to get more into stage and light design and it doesn't really matter what act it is because I find new situations challenging anyways...

Yesterday at Druckbox in Leipzig

Hey everybody,
yesterday I went with a friend of mine to the club Druckbox located in Leipzig. Strange things happend there...
I felt like it was 1994 or somthing like this... it's a pretty dark club just strobes and a laser beam and fog, fog and again fog. just like it has to be at staight techno partys. The lineup was also pretty nice with Norris Terrify and Reche&Recall vs.NDK and some more. But the strange thing is that the 2nd floor was just used for a dance evening for lets say older people. Candlelight and waiter service and a DJ playing Fox and moderating the evening.. guess what? Yeah... smoking area was outside so the old ppl and the hardtechno freaks both went outside and some of each just showed up at the opposite floor.. strange. 1.30 a.m. in the night they even did not close the floor but instead they rebuild it cleaned a tiny bit and made the big floor just smaller. after half a hour it was a minimal tech floor... without fog and just one scanner... strange.. really strange.

Last time I've seen sort of that was 1999 at Flux Club in Amsterdam for the Six in the Mix Tour of Sven Väth.

Testing Resolume Avenue

Here we go folks,

Last week I become a betatester for a new beta of Resolume Avenue and after some crashes (driver problems) avenue is quit stable and it feels really good. it's fast in my point of view. my testing machine is a 2 years old core2duo with a GeForce 8600M GT.

The Framerates are pretty well around 40 to 60 a second. the only problem that now I'm going to buy it so I have to remap all my midisettings in my live setup and because of the nice audiofeatures I think I'll find a producer to work with or I try to make some music to become a audio/video artist. but that's out of question for the moment. I'll give it a try for the next two or three weeks an dann I've got my x-mas... so Bart and Edwin.. prepare a a boxversion for me... I think just like the interface pretty well designed. Here you will find all the features just to much to write here and I guess most of the vj's already know about it.

hope to have you guys another couple of years making such a nice software...So I'm going back to play around with it and write my results
